The Farm

The Canio Ricciuti farm is a family-run business that has characterized itself over time for the breeding of sheep and goats and for the production of durum wheat, as well as obviously pecorino and ricotta.

In 1972 the company received recognition at a regional level, with the award for the best white lamb, the result of a cross between the Gentile Lucanian sheep and French Ile de France rams; the white lamb produced is today served to the guests of La Dimora dei Cavalieri and has excellent organoleptic qualities.

With the creation of the agritourism company in 2001, the Ricciuti company intended to incorporate the most modern agricultural policy guidelines aimed at promoting a development model based on pluriactivity and complementarity.

The reception, hospitality and organization of cultural recreational activities in which agritourism is expressed remain connected and complementary to the agricultural activity of cultivation and breeding.

In the company land located at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level, durum wheat is grown naturally without the use of chemicals. Among these, the Senatore Cappelli cultivar stands out, an ancient variety of durum wheat, known for being even more digestible than modern varieties and for its negligible gluten content.

Lucanian durum wheat has particular qualities compared to soft wheat, it contains more carotenoids, a greater quantity of fibers and antioxidant substances and also retains more water inside it. Furthermore, this type of grain is cholesterol-free.
